Using Clubify
Clubify is not on the Shopify App Store. These steps assume XCO has put the app on your shop. Prices you see for Free, Pro, and Advanced are configured in the app. They are not a listing. See what those plans count.
Tiers
A tier is a membership you sell. The admin calls it a plan.
Create one
- Go to Plans.
- Choose Create plan.
- Fill in Plan basics:
- Plan name, such as Silver or Trade. Customers see this name.
- Monthly price, required.
- Annual price, optional. Choose Add annual price when you want a yearly payment. Remove takes it away.
- Free trial, in days. Zero bills them when they join.
- Under Tags, optionally set Customer tag name and Order tag name. Clubify can add those to the customer and to the membership order. They are hidden from customers.
- Set the discount, benefits, and products before you leave, or come back and edit.
- Choose Save & activate.
From Setup you can instead start from a sample membership (Starter, Pro, or Elite) and edit it. Those sample names are not Clubify's own Free, Pro, and Advanced plans.
After it exists
The plan list shows status, price, benefits, and how many members are on it.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Saved, not for sale. Rules on it do not run. |
| Active | Customers can join. The subscription product exists. |
| Needs attention | The last activate did not finish. Open the plan, read the reason, then Retry activate. |
- Activate or Deactivate is on the row. Deactivate stops new joins. The plan tells you that active members must be cancelled or moved before you can delete it.
- Orders on the row opens orders attributed to that plan.
- Editing uses Save changes. Saving a benefit updates members already on the plan. You do not re-grant them.
Checkout does not ask a member for a shipping method on the membership itself. Whether the membership product is taxed follows your store tax settings and the charge-tax option on that product in Shopify.
Member discount
The discount is a percentage off the member's order. You do not create a code, and you do not attach one of your existing discounts.
- Open the plan.
- Under Membership perks, find Member discount. It is marked automatic.
- Enter the percentage. The field does not accept more than 100, or a negative number.
- Save the plan.
- If this is the first plan, open Setup, step Member discount, and choose Set up member discount. Later plans reuse that discount. You only change the percentage on each plan.
What the shopper must do:
- Be signed in. A guest checkout never receives it.
- Have a membership in Active or Trial. Cancelled and expired memberships do not get it.
- Be on a plan whose percentage is above zero.
Change the percentage on the plan and save. Members already on the plan pick up the new number. You do not send them a new code.
Benefits
Other benefits sit under the discount on the same plan.
| Benefit | What you set | What it actually does |
|---|---|---|
| Priority shipping | On or off | Shown to the member. It does not change your shipping rates. |
| VIP support | On or off | Shown to the member and recorded on the membership. It does not open a support queue. |
| Free returns / year | A whole number | Shown to the member as that many free returns a year. It does not change your return policy in Shopify. |
| Early product access | On or off | Shown to the member. It does not hide products. Use product access for that. |
A benefit left off, or a number left at 0, is not listed to the member. The plan list shows the ones that are on, such as "10% off" or "Priority shipping".
Say in your own product copy only what you will really do. Clubify displays the labels. It does not ship the parcel faster or accept the return for you.
Which products a tier can open
This is Exclusive Member Content on the plan. It is separate from the early-access benefit.
Lock specific products or collections
- Turn Exclusive Member Content on.
- Choose Add restriction rule.
- Answer What do you want to restrict?
- Product pages locks the product page.
- Add to cart leaves the page up and disables add to cart.
- Collection pages locks that collection's page.
- Choose Browse products or Browse collections. Pick the real products or collections. You can add another batch later. The picker does not ask you to pick a variant. The whole product is included.
- Write an Access denied message, or leave it blank for the default.
- Save the rule, then save the plan.
- Activate the plan if it is still a draft.
- In Setup, finish Turn on the storefront so the Clubify Control embed is enabled on the live theme. Save the theme editor.
Someone who is not an active member of that tier sees the lock. An active or trial member of the tier gets through.
Lock every product with a tag, vendor, type, or collection
Use this when you do not want to pick products one by one.
- Add a rule of type Product pages or Add to cart.
- Choose By product attribute.
- Set Attribute to product tag, vendor, product type, or collection.
- Enter the value to match. Matching is exact. For a collection, use the collection handle.
- Add the Clubify Product Gate block to the product template. The rule shows Needs product block until you do. The storefront embed alone cannot see the product's tag, vendor, type, or collection.
- Save the plan and keep the plan active.
Blogs and pages
Blog posts and Shopify pages are in the same "what do you want to restrict?" list. They are not in the product browser. Complete the fields the rule shows, save, and keep the plan active with the storefront embed on.
Turn the whole card off to stop every rule on that plan without deleting them.
The member page
There are two pages. One is yours. One is the customer's.
In the admin
Go to Members.
- Filter by Tier or Status (Active, Trial, Cancelled, Expired).
- Open a row. The page is titled with the customer, not an internal id.
- History is the timeline: joined, changed tier, cancelled, a renewal that went through, a renewal that failed.
- Recent orders lists orders, and marks the ones placed as a member. The count is "placed as a member".
- The side panel shows tier, status, source, renewal, joined date, and the benefits on the tier.
- Cancel membership ends it. If they subscribed, the subscription is cancelled too. This is immediate on your side. The customer's own cancel, below, is different.
Grant membership comps someone. Pick the customer, the tier, and Granted duration in months (1 to 120). This does not create a subscription. You handle any money outside the membership charge. You need an active tier first.
The member allowance is checked only on this grant:
- Free counts 50 memberships.
- Pro counts 1,000.
- Advanced is unlimited.
Storefront subscribers are included in the count and are not blocked by it. When a grant would pass the number, Clubify refuses it and points you at the plan that raises the limit. Existing members keep working if you later move to a smaller plan.
In the customer account
Add the page Clubify Membership Portal in the customer account editor.
A member who is Active or Trial sees:
- the tier name and a status badge
- Renews or Trial ends, with the date
- Your active benefits, including the percentage off when it is above zero
- Cancel membership
If they confirm cancel, the membership stays active until the end of the current billing period. Benefits stop then. If they have no active membership, the page says so and points them at the plans.
Also optional, not the same page:
- Membership Plans theme block, styled in Customize, so shoppers can join.
- Clubify Member Banner in checkout.
- Clubify Member Portal Link on the thank-you page.
Emails
Emails (the page title is Member emails) sends, when you leave them on:
- Welcome / activated
- Renewal succeeded
- Payment failed
- Membership cancelled
- Membership expired
Use Branding, Sender, and Templates. You can send yourself a test. Defaults work if you skip the wording. This does not change the discount or which products a tier can open.
