Using SubFlow

SubFlow is free. Selling plans, build-a-box, and optional rent-to-own are ways you sell products. They are not prices for the app.

Do this first

  1. Install SubFlow. There is no plan to pick.
  2. Create a selling plan, set the billing interval, and attach at least one product.
  3. Add the Subscription Widget block on the product page and publish the theme.
  4. Subscribe at checkout with a test customer.
  5. In the customer account, pause, resume, or skip a delivery.

Selling plans

Create the plan in SubFlow. Choose the billing interval you want customers to see, then attach the products that should offer it. The widget on the product page is how customers choose to subscribe at checkout.

A plan with no product attached does not appear on the storefront.

Billing and dunning

Active subscriptions are billed on a daily schedule.

When a renewal fails, dunning retries it. The default days are 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10, up to five attempts, with an email at each step. Open Dunning if you want a different pattern. You choose what happens when the retries end: pause the subscription, cancel it, or leave it active.

Customer account

Subscribers manage the subscription from their account. They can:

  • Pause, then resume later
  • Skip a delivery
  • Change the frequency
  • Cancel

Cancelling asks why. If you have turned on a save offer for that reason, they see it first. An offer can be a discount, a pause, or a skip. They can still cancel after they see it.

On a build-a-box subscription, the account can also show the box so the customer can pick the products for an upcoming delivery, and an add-on for the next delivery when you offer one.

Emails and reporting

Set a sender name, then leave upcoming-renewal emails on if you want customers told before the next charge.

Open Analytics for reporting: active subscriptions, monthly recurring revenue, churn, and failed payments, for the dates you pick.

Build-a-box

This is a product you sell, not a charge for SubFlow.

  1. Create a build-a-box plan and choose which products customers may pick, and how many slots the box has.
  2. Add the Build a Box block on that product page.
  3. Open a subscription later to see what is in the box.

Rent-to-own

Leave this off unless you actually sell that way. It is optional, and it is not a price for the app.

  1. Turn rent-to-own on.
  2. Start from a ready-made agreement and edit it before customers see it.
  3. Create a lease plan.
  4. Add the Rent-to-own widget on the product page. The page can show a monthly amount.

Out of stock

You can record a substitute for a product that is out of stock. Open Out of stock, pick the product, and record the substitute.

Recording a substitute does not mean the subscription changes on its own.

Several subscriptions at once

From the subscription list, you can pause, resume, or cancel more than one subscription together.

After a cancellation

You can send a follow-up email after a customer cancels, using the message you wrote.

When something looks wrong, use troubleshooting before you reinstall. Reinstalling rarely fixes a theme block that was never enabled.
